2022 Greece and Islands

September 5, 2022 - September 20, 2022

15 days 7,410 miles 6 stops

Lolo and the Caryatids

We were more than ready to travel internationally again, after having canceled two big trips because of Covid - one to the Galapagos and one touring Eastern Europe on our own. Can’t feel too sorry for ourselves though as we did do some really fun social distancing trips in our 4Runners to many great destinations in the American West.

So, when I approached Herb last January with a Road Scholar catalog and said, “How about this 15 day trip to Greece and the Islands,” he didn’t hesitate for a moment. He was just so happy I was ready to travel again, and agreed that this was the type of trip that we would like to go with a tour group rather than on our own – too many logistics with island hopping and such. Plus, we wanted to try the “educational” type tour that Road Scholar offered.

I have always loved reading about Greek history and art, as well as mythology, so I was pretty excited about the opportunity to learn more. Herb was admittedly not as much the “scholar” type, but very willingly watched many lectures and YouTube videos to help us prepare.

The trip was to include a few days in Athens, and then ferries to four islands: Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, and Crete, where we would stay on each of the islands for 2 or 3 days. All logistics, accommodations, activities, etc were taken care of for us by Road Scholar.

All we had to do was show up. In fact, we decided to go two days ahead of the start of the tour, so we could get over our jet lag and have a little time to explore on our own.
