2025 Utah Off-Roading

May 25, 2025 - June 4, 2025

10 days 1,169 miles 7 stops

Atop the Navajo Knobs

Herb was getting the itch for a road trip, so I quickly threw together a draft of an itinerary for 10-days, mostly off-roading, in southern Utah.

Unlike the days where we would take our Lazy Daze, we now have pretty much transitioned to taking our Toyota 4Runner (built out with two beds and a refrigerator where the back seat and trunk used to be) off the grid to more remote and uncrowded places.

I actually love sleeping in the 4Runner, but Herb does promise me that every 3rd day or so, we would sleep in a hotel with the simple things in life - a hot shower and a porcelain toilet.

Atop the Hidden Pinyon Overlook

I even made a 2-night reservation to stay in a teepee near Capitol Reef, which didn’t turn out exactly as planned, but worked out in the end.

So off we went to revisit some old favorites, like Cathedral Valley, Factory Butte, and Moonscape overlook and to discover some new ones like Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Snow Canyon, and three terrific hikes along the Hole-in-the-Rock road and Capitol Reef.

It’s hard to go wrong in the red-rock country of Utah!
